Did you know the turtle is one of the oldest living animal ancestors walking on the earth today? The oldest fossils of turtles are dated at over 200 million years old. This is highly symbolic. It indicates the turtle is a symbol of longevity, endurance, persistence, and the continuation of life (sometimes against incredible odds). |

What's In a Name?
Our community brainstormed a long list of potential names, and in the end voted for "Myo" as a fitting name for our beloved turtle. This prefix means "muscle" (as in myopathy, muscle disease). Coincidentally, we have found that the shape of a turtle is used as a mnemonic for the structure of the biochemical compound myoinositol, which is part of the PI(3)P lipids that play an important role in the structure of the cell membrane and signaling of muscle contraction.
